We Are Not Allowed to Despair

Why does election season always bring out the “doomsday” predictions? If you’re tired of hearing that America will be destroyed if the other guy wins, you’re not alone. Yes, elections are important, and Christians should vote. It’s a way to love our neighbor. But maybe the last week before the 2020 election is a good time to revisit Hebrews 10.

“Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution,” we are told. “You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.”

I don’t know what will happen November 3rd. But no matter who wins the presidency or the Senate, no matter how difficult things get, Jesus Christ will still be King. Our future with him is secure. Here’s the next line in Hebrews:

“So do not throw away your confidence. It will be richly rewarded.”
