On Monday, Humza Yousaf resigned as First Minister of Scotland, the second top Scot to do so in just over a year. In each case, these leaders lost their office largely because they were more committed to progressive agenda items than anything related to Scotland’s independence or wellbeing. 

In his short time in power, Yousaf unwittingly imitated the villain in Braveheart by complaining that Scotland had too many Scots, pushed hard to advance radical elements of gender ideology as Britain and Europe were pulling back, and tried to squash all dissenting voices to his Left-wing agenda. 

The tale of these two politicians should serve as a warning. First, even in politics, it’s only possible to run against the grain of reality for so long. Eventually, reality wins. Second, we can’t always rely on the incompetence of our political leaders. Eventually, they’ll stumble, but they can do real harm before they do.
