“The Miracles” and God’s Image in Us All

In a culture that tends to look away from persons with disabilities, and even to seek to remove them altogether, there’s a group out of Mississippi literally singing to a different tune.

The Baddour Center, a care facility for adults with intellectual disabilities, was founded with the belief that “every person is created in the image of God.” Part of their programming is a choir called The Miracles, made up of residents of the Center. Until COVID, The Miracles toured the country showcasing the beauty found among a population so many in our world refuse to see.

Let me be clear, the ability to tour and sing is not what gives these choir members dignity; the divine imprint on them as members of the human family is all they need. Still, take a minute to hear them sing, and it might jog our collective memory about the humanity shared between us all.
