Communism was easily the deadliest ideology of the twentieth century, with the body count as high as 100 million. But do young people know that?

A poll conducted by the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation recently found that while just over half of Americans have a “very unfavorable” opinion of communism, only 37 percent of millennials felt that way. Twenty-one percent of those age 16 to 20 said they’d vote for a communist. Many had no idea who figures like Mao Zedong, Che Guevara, or Vladimir Lenin were.

And get this: a third of millennials think more people were killed under President George W. Bush than under Joseph Stalin—whom historians blame for nearly 50 million deaths!

Folks, we’ve got to improve historical education. After the last 100 years, no one should have a favorable view of communism. And if kids don’t understand how spectacularly this ideology failed, it won’t stay in history’s dustbin.
