Mars candy recently announced the release of all-female packs of M&M’s. In case you’re wondering what makes a piece of candy male or female, the company assures us that the move is designed to “celebrate women everywhere who are flipping the status quo.” And that their brand-new purple M&M, added in September of 2022, represents “acceptance and inclusivity.”  

Beyond this being just weird and raising the question of why, the whole thing points to how wrongly we think about women in today’s world. It exposes the pretense that in all of the current cultural theatrics, we’re somehow moving the feminist needle forward while at the same time young girls are systemically taught to question who they are as women, that men can take the place of women, and that we don’t really know what a woman is.  

In such a world, what an odd thing then to proclaim an M&M as female, as if that advances their cause.
