On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration announced that medication abortion drugs can now be sold over the counter at retail pharmacies. Since the pandemic, the FDA has relaxed restrictions on accessing the drugs, but this new move further endangers women and pre-born children.
Recently, the Alliance Defending Freedom sued the FDA on behalf of a group of doctors and other healthcare professionals arguing not only that the FDA has disregarded evidence that chemical abortions cause complications at up to four times the rate of surgical abortions, but has misrepresented what studies reveal about the safety of the drugs.
As a result, children have been killed and women have been put at risk. As ADF’s Julie Blake wrote, “Abortionists mail these drugs to women to take at home, alone, with no indication of the potential horrors that await.”
