And the United Methodist Church is—or soon maybe was—the second largest Protestant denomination in America. Yet years of tension over issues like abortion and especially LGBT participation have led the UMC to the brink of division.
How did the Methodists get to this point, and what does it mean for the church’s theologically orthodox members? Lifelong Methodist and President of the Institute on Religion and Democracy Mark Tooley joins BreakPoint’s Shane Morris to discuss.
