The time is coming.
I hope we never grow numb about mass shootings, but we are certainly no closer to a solution.
After the Parkland shooting, the voices demanding more gun control are louder than ever. And they just might get what they’re demanding. Now let me be clear, as a Second Amendment guy, I believe in the right to bear arms. So I’m not prescribing here: I’m predicting.
Edmund Burke famously wrote in 1770, “It is ordained in the eternal constitution of things that men of intemperate minds cannot be free.”
Talk about intemperance! Just look at our society today…
Chuck Colson warned that when facing moral chaos, people will increasingly give up freedom as the price for restoring order. It’s either the conscience or the constable. If these shootings and other devolving trends continue, the replacement of the Constitution with constables is inevitable. But even they won’t be able to govern a people who have lost their conscience.
